Woodblock print, circa year 1800, Japan., by artist Toyokuni I. A large, strong, red carp jumps from the swirling water — a classic Japanese design. A brilliant image of the large fish in a rich, orange color against the flowing curves of a rushing stream, with tangles of grasses sweeping around its tail. Toyokuni I did very few nature scenes, and this is one of his best. A wonderful image and a very rare subject to find in reprint, beautifully detailed
